Donuts, with their light, airy texture and irresistible sweetness, are a perfect treat for any occasion. Whether enjoyed with a cup of coffee or on their own, these homemade delights are sure to satisfy. Here’s a simple recipe that will guide you through making delicious donuts from scratch.

Instructions:

1. Prepare the dough: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. In a larger bowl, mix the sugar, eggs, butter, and salt. Gradually add in the yeast mixture, followed by the flour. Mix until a soft dough forms.


2. Knead and rise: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.


3. Shape the donuts: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove air. Roll it out to about ½ inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small) to shape the donuts. Transfer them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise again for 30 minutes.


4. Fry the donuts: Heat oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop 2-3 donuts at a time into the oil, frying for about 1 minute per side until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.


5. Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze. While the donuts are still warm, dip each one into the glaze, coating them evenly. Place the glazed donuts on a wire rack to allow the glaze to set.

Tips:

For a richer flavor, you can add a touch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough.
